“Caged Bird” by Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou’s poem “Caged Bird” compares two birds to show the difference between freedom and oppression. One bird is free—it flies wherever it wants, enjoys the wind, the sky, and the sun. The other bird is caged—it has clipped wings, its feet are tied, and it can’t fly. It sings, but its song is full of fear, pain, and longing.
