Resource Description

The book is suitable for children in Gr. 0, Gr. 1 and Gr. 2.

Use of the book:

1. Preparation for Gr. 0 and Gr. 1 to learn and recognize the letters of the alphabet.
2. The storybook can be used as a reader for Gr. 2.
3. Practice writing the small letters of the alphabet.
4. Recognition of small letters.

Instructions:

* Read the story to the child. Show him/ her all the letters and the pictures.
* Use one letter per day or per week, starting with a.
* Complete the chosen letter’s activities (See explanation below).

Activities:

1. Every page has one letter for the child to trace with a pencil.
* By tracing the letter, the child learns the letter’s shape and strengthens the muscles needed for writing.
2. Pages 29 – 37: There is one letter in the top left corner of each block. Ask your child to search for the letter in the circles.
For example all the a’s. Let the child mark or colour all the correct letters in the block.
3. Card game:
* Print the cards on pages 38 – 44 and cut out.
* Shuffle the cards and pack the cards out on a table, face up.
* Ask your child to match the cards with the correct small letter in the story book.
