Parts of Speech

This mind map sketches out nine parts of speech (nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, prepositions, conjunctions, interjections and determiners) in visual form. Brief explanations and examples are provided and links are shown between some different part speech. This resource is designed for teachers who need an overview of the typology of words in English. The cryptic descriptions on the mind map are transcribed into a list form for each of the parts of speech, with some providing examples of actual words or usage. By studying this resource the teacher will be able to distinguish where different words fit in and this will facilitate the teaching of grammar.
