Resource Description

What is included:

  • 4 Scene boards
  • 4 sets of preposition sentence cards, each matching a scene board (in English and Afrikaans)
  • Possible character icons to be used (alternative manipulatives can also be used)

Game Guidelines:

  1. Setup: Lay out the provided scene boards and place the character icons nearby. Shuffle the sentence cards and place them face down in a pile.
  2. Objective: Learners practice identifying and using prepositions in sentences by following instructions on the cards and placing their character icon accordingly.
  3. Instructions:
    • Players take turns drawing a sentence card from the pile.
    • The learner reads the sentence aloud (e.g., “I stand under the basketball net”). For younger learners, the teacher or a peer can assist with reading.
    • The learner identifies the location mentioned in the sentence and places their character icon in the correct position on the scene board.
  4. Checking Answers: Teachers or peers confirm whether the placement is correct. Encourage learners to explain their understanding of the preposition used.
  5. Variation: Introduce a timer to make the game more dynamic or use the cards as a matching activity for additional practice.
