Resource Description

This Flags of Southern Africa resource reinforces learning the flags of the following eight Southern African countries:

1.       South Africa

2.       Namibia

3.       Botswana

4.       Zimbabwe

5.       Lesotho

6.       Eswatini

7.       Mozambique

8.       Madagascar

Children use the blank templates to create their own flag booklets, using the completed reference cards as a guide. Not only will they be learning to recognise each country’s flag, but they will also be learning to recognise its location on the map of Africa.

Print the reference cards in colour. This will require 4 sheets of A4 paper.

Print the templates in black and white. This will also require 4 sheets of A4 paper.

After printing, fold and cut each page in half to form two A5 pages. Laminate the 8 reference cards if possible. The blank templates can be photocopied as and when needed.

Display the reference cards so that children can refer to them as they complete their blank templates. They will need to colour in the flag using the correct colours, colour in the relevant country on the map of Africa and write the name of the country using the lines provided.  Once they have completed a few (or all) flags, these can be stapled together to form their own flag booklet.
