The English language has so many spelling  rules that children need to learn. To make it even more difficult, there are many exceptions to the rules. This presentation explains when to double the last consonant in words ending in f, l, s and z. It also give a list of exceptions and explains why words ending in ‘s’ often have a ‘z’ sound. A poster for use in the classroom and 3 worksheets using words in context are also included.
